SS 304 Compressor Adapters — FAQs

BSP stands for British Standard Pipe. It is a family of thread types used internationally for interconnecting and sealing pipes and fittings. In pneumatic and compressor systems, BSP threads (especially BSPT - tapered) provide an excellent, mechanically secure seal against high-pressure air and gases. It is widely adopted across Europe, Asia, and Australia as the standard connection for fluid power.

While brass is excellent for many applications, SS 304 is far superior when it comes to raw strength, vibration resistance, and longevity in harsh environments. Compressors naturally create heat and condensation (moisture) inside the lines. SS 304 is completely immune to this internal rusting. Furthermore, in high-pressure industrial systems or areas exposed to chemical washdowns, stainless steel will not degrade or crack under stress like softer metals might.

Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that removes a microscopic layer of material from the stainless steel surface. This does two things: First, it removes any microscopic burrs left from machining, creating an ultra-smooth surface that improves fluid/air flow. Second, it enriches the chromium concentration on the surface, significantly boosting the adapter's natural resistance to rust and corrosion.

If the adapter uses BSPT (tapered) threads, a thread sealant like PTFE tape or liquid pipe dope is highly recommended to fill microscopic voids and ensure a 100% leak-proof seal. If using BSPP (parallel) threads, sealing is typically achieved using an O-ring or a bonded seal washer at the base of the thread. We manufacture both styles based on your requirements.
